Age of Mercy Johnson

Mercy Johnson was born on August 28, 1984. She is 37 years old.

Mercy Johnson’s Early Years

Mercy was born into a low-income household and had to work a variety of menial tasks to support her family, including hawking and serving as a maid to many houses, until nature smiled on her and altered her narrative for the better. She is the sixth kid in a family of seven.

Mercy started her elementary school education in Calabar and finished it at the Nigerian Navy Primary School in Lagos. Her father was a Naval Officer, which meant he was frequently transferred and had to work in different Nigerian states. This caused her to change schools frequently, which is why she completed her secondary education at two distinct schools: Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt and Rivers State Secondary School in Port Harcourt.

Mercy Johnson’s Professional Life

Following her secondary education, she faced the JAMB problems. Mercy decided that if she couldn’t get into the university early because she couldn’t pass the JAMB examinations, she could at least put herself to good use and engage in other activities as she continued to try to pass JAMB.

This inspired her to pursue a career in acting. She tried out for a role in the 2004 smash film The Maid.

Mercy’s acting as a possessed house help in the film was so good that she got numerous praises.

After ‘The Maid’ came the several movie roles and gradually, Mercy Johnson became a household name in Nigeria and one of the highest paid Nollywood actresses.

Mercy was in almost 60 films, including Hustlers, Baby Oku in America, and War in the Palace. She is now one of Nollywood’s most sought-after actresses, as well as one of the most expensive.  Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi named the Nollywood actress as his new Senior Special Assistant (SSA) for entertainment, arts, and culture in March 2017.

Mercy Johnson Personal Life

Mercy married the love of her life in one of the most contentious Nigerian marriages in history in 2011.

Mercy was in the midst of preparing her wedding when words reached her via gossip blogs that a woman named Lovely Okojie had come out to say she was still married to Prince Odianosen Okojie of Uromi in Edo state.

There were photos of this woman and two grown up children who apparently were Prince Okojie’s kids, to back up the claims.

The story went viral at the time, with some fans attempting to dissuade her from proceeding with the wedding. Mercy, who had already been infected with the love bug, insisted on marrying her fiancé.

On August 27th, 2011, the pair married at Christ Embassy Church in Oregun, Lagos.
