What is Clubfoot?

Clubfoot is one of the most common birth defects.

Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is a foot and ankle congenital deformity.  Being a congenital condition means some babies are are  are born with it since it. The foot or or both feet could  turn inward. The bottom of the foot often faces sideways or even upward when you look at it.

The heels and toes turn inward to the extent that it looks like the feet are upside down.

Statistics of children born with clubbed feet

Clubfoot affects approximately one in every 500-1000 new Borns, making it one of the most common birth defect with about half of the cases of club foot involving only one foot

Clubfoot treatment

Clubfoot has a greater chance of being corrected if treatment is initiated early in life because of the favorable fibroelastic properties of the ligaments, capsules and tendons.

The child undergoes 4-8 weeks of weekly castings and then tenotomy after which a brace is given to the child and would be followed up on management.
